Purpose and general orientation
The research block monitors technical developments in the area of LD-, AOD and AOD-converters and its metallurgy for the production of stainless steel. The Nordic steel plants have pointed to the need for increased knowledge concerning the decarburising and refining process in AOD converters. It is important that the process is guided towards shorter and more predictable treatment times in order to manage an increased share of sequence casting (uninterrupted casting of several ladles in succession) on the continuous casting machines.
